The world around us is changing. A shift is coming, one where the separation of life, objects, and body is not so vast. One that is a re-awakening of objects of use as a continuation and connectedness to who we are, where we are, and that which surrounds us. There are signs all around us of this. Little indications of this change and need of it. Life as it stands, runs at a pace that rolls upon and over itself. But what if we were just to stand still for but a moment embracing our experiences and objects around us. Having less, doing less, and being more connected to what we have and do.

The Bue series holds these ideas entwined. Sculptural flowing, fluid forms of raw and ebonized oak bend and fold through the technique of traditional steam bending, connecting us to a time old handcraft. Where once heated, the wood is malleable and supple ready to be formed by hand and take on shape. Bending and bowing they form lines that are calm in a material reminiscent of the quiet moments of the land and flora surrounding us. Moments that bring us to what we are doing and where these objects come from. Soft stitches bind these raw natural materials to one another in a transparent construction that emphasises the thought and hand that crafted their forms. Coming together to form flowing connective objects of use, brushes that are an extension of the hand and land around us. Giving us cause to pause if but for a moment.

Poppy Lawman is a designer based in Oslo, Norway, where she focuses on making thoughtful slow designs and objects whose goal is to connect one to their surroundings and endeavour to promote living in the moment. Part sculpture and part utilitarian, the objects are made to be enjoyed in and out of use dancing the line of art and design for a slower, more connective way of living. The Bue Brushes are made from steam bent oak from well managed forests that responsibly take care of forest harvesting and replenishment. They are made entirely from biodegradable materials of oak, coconut fibers, linen thread and beeswax.
